Google has just launched the Nexus 4 (a Nexus smartphone made by LG), which is a smartphone that rivals the Samsung Galaxy S3 at just £239. Samsung, however, seems to be unaffected. The Korean tech giant has announced selling 30 million units if its flagship.

On the Korean firm’s corporate site, Head of Samsung Mobile, JK Shin, describes the Galaxy S3 as a “runaway favourite”. The Galaxy S3 hit a whopping 30 million in just 157 days. By comparison, the highly successful Galaxy S2 hit 10 million in 150 days after the handset was released in the market.

This comes after the Korean firm announced that it has shipped 3 million units of the Galaxy Note 2. Of course, shipping means units sent to retailers and not units sold, but it still proves that there is a market for Samsung’s new phablet. It, however, has a long way to go compared to the 30 million milestone of the Galaxy S3.

Although hitting 30 million in just 157 days is impressive, it still isn’t clear whether this figure represents sales alone or a combination of both units shipped and units sold. This means that it’s possible not all of the 30 million Galaxy S3s have found their way to owners.

According to CNET News, Samsung is considering plans to change its logo, as part of giving its corporate identity a face-lift. We can only hope Samsung makes its new logo eye-catching, unlike the rather boring new logo Microsoft came up with.

Do you think the Samsung Galaxy S3 will continue to enjoy stellar sales, despite the fact that Google now offers the Nexus 4 which outperforms the S3 at a cheaper price, or do you think this is the end of Samsung’s dominance in the smartphone world?
